Gladys” the amazing!

Gladys is a female name from the Welsh name Gwladus or Gwladys, which bears the meaning of royalty (princess); conversely, it has been speculated to originally be from the Latin diminutive "gladiolus," meaning small sword hence the gladiolus flowering plant. It may be used as a Welsh variant of Claudia, meaning lame. This month we choose to celebrate a power house, hardworking and Godfearing lady bearing the name Gladys in the person of MrsNchang Gladys Akosa.

Who is Gladys, tell us more about you?

I am a Cameroonian living in the north-west region of Cameroon and trader in the Bamenda main market. I enjoy designing clothes especially the Bamenda outfit which is my main activity.

Do you know why your parents decided to call you Gladys?

I was born in a small village called Mbatu and back in the days’ health facilities were not easy to find around. When she was in labour she had to walk for a long distance to arrive at the regional hospital which is a long distance from my village. The lady who accompanied her was her friend who was called Gladys of blessed memory, as a sign of love and appreciation that is how my name came about.

How do you feel about the surname Gladys?

Sincerely I wouldn’t have wished for better there are surnames which I will say depreciate with time but mine has stood the test of times! Some people affectionately just cut the name short and say “Gla”and I am glad.

Gladys sure looks good on her as she bears the name elegantly, happy feast to all those bearing the name Gladys out there team Reglo celebrates you.
