The 2018 winner Nobel Peace award went to a doctor who fights against sexual abuseof women

The Congolese Denis Mukwege and the Iranian Nadia Murad received the most prestigious award on October 5th for their fight against women sexual abuse during war.

At 63 years old, the gynecologist Denis Mukwege dedicated his life to the defense of victims of sexual violence during wartime in the Democratic Republic of Congo. With the help of his team, « he saved thousands of victims of such assaults », as the Nobel committee said.

He regularly condemned the impunity of gang rapes and criticized the Congolese government and other countries as well for not doing enough to stop the use of sexual violence against women in their strategy.

On the other hand, Nadia, a former sexual slave of the islamic state group, showed an uncommon courage by telling her own sufferings and speaking up for other victims.

The 25-year-old Iranian girl is one of the 3,000 Yezidi women who have been raped and abused by Daesh. Before the nobel peace price of 2018, Nadia was appointed, as UN ambassador for the dignity of survivors of human trafficking in 2016.
